About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Collect blood specimens by venipuncture and capillary from patients
  • Perform EKG, pulse oximetry, and point-of-care testing on inpatients and outpatients
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary phlebotomy using appropriate equipment and techniques
  • Review physician requisitions and orders to ensure appropriate tests are drawn and meet Medical Necessity guidelines
  • Prepare Advance Beneficiary Notices for tests that do not meet Medical Necessity guidelines and obtain required signatures
  • Perform associated quality control and instrumentation maintenance
  • Process specimens through centrifugation, pour-off, aliquoting, labeling, and packaging
  • Provide patient data and insurance information for specimen registration
  • Create registrations for outreach specimens in the ADT system when needed
  • Float across locations and campuses according to department needs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School graduate
  • Successful completion of a recognized phlebotomy training program or prior documented experience performing phlebotomy
  • Basic life support certification required within 3 months of employment
  • Maintenance of annual competencies in BLS
  • May be required to work and travel to other locations and campuses per department needs
  • Ability to work 32 hours per week, including four 8-hour evening shifts, every other holiday, and every other weekend
