About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Collect blood specimens by venipuncture and capillary from patients
- Perform EKG, pulse oximetry, and point-of-care testing on inpatients and outpatients
- Perform venipuncture and capillary phlebotomy using appropriate equipment and techniques
- Review physician requisitions and orders to ensure appropriate tests are drawn and meet Medical Necessity guidelines
- Prepare Advance Beneficiary Notices for tests that do not meet Medical Necessity guidelines and obtain required signatures
- Perform associated quality control and instrumentation maintenance
- Process specimens through centrifugation, pour-off, aliquoting, labeling, and packaging
- Provide patient data and insurance information for specimen registration
- Create registrations for outreach specimens in the ADT system when needed
- Float across locations and campuses according to department needs
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School graduate
- Successful completion of a recognized phlebotomy training program or prior documented experience performing phlebotomy
- Basic life support certification required within 3 months of employment
- Maintenance of annual competencies in BLS
- May be required to work and travel to other locations and campuses per department needs
- Ability to work 32 hours per week, including four 8-hour evening shifts, every other holiday, and every other weekend
