About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare, scan, file, and perform quality control for medical records in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system
  • Verify patient identification, Medical Record Number, account number, document type, barcodes, image quality, and document completeness
  • Follow correction processes for incorrectly indexed documents
  • Maintain a one- to three-day turnaround time and work backlog encounters
  • Arrange documentation chronologically and keep like document types together
  • Identify, document, delete, and rescan erroneous or poor-quality documents
  • Retrieve, sign out, and deliver hybrid medical records for patient care, discharges, correspondence, or studies
  • Retrieve discharge encounters from units within 24 hours of discharge
  • Inspect pages, remove staples, perforate fan-folded sheets, and number pages
  • Reassign records to providers in a timely manner
  • Interact professionally with physicians and inter- and intra-departmental personnel
  • Comply with departmental policies, quality improvement practices, health and safety requirements, and attendance standards
  • Attend required meetings, conferences, and seminars and perform related duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of general office experience
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Windows applications
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate efficiently
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to problem solve, organize, and prioritize workload to meet turnaround-time benchmarks
  • Ability to withstand significant ongoing pressure and deal with individuals with tact, discretion, and diplomacy
  • Ability to maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance
  • Preferred: training in medical terminology
  • Preferred: experience in a medical record department or clinical setting
  • Work is sedentary and requires working indoors in a normal office environment
  • Must be able to work Monday through Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., second shift; some initial training occurs on first shift
