About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform general maintenance work including plumbing, heating, carpentry, and electrical work across UMass Memorial Medical Center campuses
  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on medical, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, fire alarm, pneumatic tube, laundry, and other equipment and systems
  • Replace light bulbs and related items
  • Assist with fire alarm system shutdown, generator and electric testing
  • Assist with major equipment repairs and installations
  • Fabricate minor repair parts and components
  • Troubleshoot, evaluate, and identify mechanical, plumbing, and electrical system problems
  • Perform sheet metal cutting, welding, and soldering as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Ability to read, write, calculate, and follow instructions and procedures
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing, heating, electrical, and mechanical techniques and repair principles
  • Ability to work from specifications, schedules, and general instructions requiring interpretation
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Ability to use a computerized maintenance work order system with minimal training within 60 days of employment
  • One to three years of experience
  • Trade school completion preferred
  • Employees must be at least 18 years of age
