About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Cordially greets and receives patients
- Ascertains patient needs and appropriately directs them
- Collects blood samples using appropriate venipuncture techniques
- Follows departmental protocols for sample collection
- Communicates difficulties or complications to supervisors
- Receives specimens in the computer system
- Labels and prioritizes specimens accurately
- Transports specimens promptly and redistributes them per protocol
- Maintains clean and organized drawing station or cart
- Restocks supplies at the end of each shift
- Keeps patient orders accessible and organized
- Registers all courier-delivered specimens accurately and efficiently
- Troubleshoots printer issues as needed
- Demonstrates mastery of hospital information systems
- Orders tests accurately using knowledge of test dictionaries and panels
- Answers and transfers calls courteously and efficiently
- Performs heel sticks and PKU collections proficiently
- Adapts to workflow changes and staffing needs
- Provides coverage for home draws, secretarial duties, and drawing stations
- Offers constructive feedback to supervisors
- Stocks supplies, trains nursing staff, and ensures timely patient draws
- Applies knowledge of growth and development stages to patient care
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Phlebotomy training preferred
- ASCP certification or eligibility preferred
- Phlebotomy experience preferred
- Computer and keyboard proficiency
- Fluent English communication skills
