💰 $24 - $40 per hour
About the role
- Interprets clinical and diagnostic documentation for outpatient care
- Assigns appropriate ICD-CM and CPT codes
- Verifies documentation substantiating codes assigned
- Assists in resolving incomplete/missing chart documentation
- Participates in continuous coding audit and performance management program
- Maintains coding accuracy rate of not less than 95%
- Attends required training classes annually
- Communicates with management about backlog situations and necessary documents
- Alerts management to coding irregularities and trends
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Medical coding certification preferred
- Training in medical terminology from an accredited program within one year of hire
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or CCS-P certification preferred
- Knowledge of ICD-CM and CPT coding systems
- Knowledge of third-party payer requirements and federal/state regulations
- Good customer service skills
- Good organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to problem solve and prioritize workload
- Three years of medical abstraction and outpatient coding experience preferred
