About the role
- Lead complex bridge engineering efforts from concept through completion, ensuring high technical quality and sound engineering judgment.
- Solve advanced structural challenges involving steel and concrete systems, curved girders, seismic and ice loading, and other specialized conditions.
- Conduct independent technical reviews, including oversight of third‑party designs, to ensure accuracy, safety, constructability, and compliance.
- Promote strong engineering practices and continuous improvement in design methods, tools, and quality management.
- Anticipate emerging technical and market needs and bring forward ideas that strengthen Ulteig’s long‑term success.
- Serve as a project manager or technical lead on bridge and structural projects for state DOTs, counties, municipalities, and tribal entities.
- Develop and manage scopes, budgets, and schedules with disciplined execution and clear communication.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project outcomes.
- Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to support predictable, high‑quality delivery.
- Build and strengthen relationships with key clients, including state and local agencies, tribal nations, and industry partners.
- Actively develop the technical bench by coaching engineers on judgment, constructability, and client-facing technical communication.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering; a master’s degree is preferred.
- 12+ years of experience required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Hybrid or remote within the U.S.; preferred location in the Upper Midwest, Mountain West, or Texas; willingness to travel approximately 10–20% to support clients, project sites, and internal teams.
- Significant experience in bridge engineering, including design and review of steel and concrete structures for state DOTs, counties, municipalities, or tribal entities.
- Experience with Risa, STAAD.Pro, Midas, CSiBridge, or similar advanced analysis platforms.
- Proven ability to solve complex structural challenges involving curved girders, seismic and ice loading, and other advanced technical conditions.
- Demonstrated experience leading bridge projects or major technical components with accountability for quality, schedule, and client communication.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to clients, partners, and team members.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and provide disciplined technical judgment in fast‑moving project environments.
- Commitment to quality, safety, and professional integrity in all aspects of project delivery.
