About the role
- Assist patients and community members with insurance applications through MNsure.
- Communicate with MNsure, MN Department of Human Services, and counties’ health and human services departments with and on behalf of applicants and enrollees.
- Review Medicaid and MNsure requirements and process applications to the program as necessary.
- Assist with funding for other service needs, such as complex gynecology and HIV prevention as directed.
- Work in collaboration with the health center staff to obtain any additional clinical documentation requested from insurance carriers.
- Clearly document all communications and contacts with insurance carriers, funding agencies, patients and staff.
- Be available to speak with patients by phone (and occasionally face-to-face) to help them understand procedure costs and financial responsibilities.
- Provide excellent customer service by resolving concerns and responding to inquiries in a professional and engaging manner.
- Coordinate services provided to patients according to policies and procedures.
- Screen patients for eligibility for other potential funding sources when a patient is not able to meet their liability related to their service.
- Assist patients with third-party insurance questions as needed.
- Demonstrate and maintain a working knowledge of customer service principles and departmental expectations regarding customer service.
- Maintain daily focus on attaining productivity standards and recommend new approaches for enhancing performance and productivity when appropriate.
- Record and maintain complete documentation of activities performed on account while in-house.
- Advise self-pay patients of their medical care options for future follow-up care.
- Participate in data gathering for financial reporting.
- Work closely with management daily in regard to patient status changes (whether this includes patient type, insurance notification, or insurance coverage).
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Requirements
- Minimum of one year of health insurance billing and/or health insurance collection experience.
- Knowledge of government programs such as Medicaid and PMAPs.
- Must have self-initiative, as well as exceptional social skills and emotional intelligence in order to support patients with a variety of needs and the ability to effectively communicate with staff.
- Must exhibit compassion and patience for all people and pays great attention to detail.
