About the role
- Use advanced knowledge obtained through higher education to exercise independent judgment in developing and completing designs and contract documents for transportation, rail & transit structures.
- Preparation and checking of design calculations, quantities, cost estimates, and project plans for bridge and civil structures.
- Ability to function as a project engineer and understand all aspects of design and plan production.
- Additional duties may include field assessment and inspection of structures and facilities.
- Self-motivated, technically proficient, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, and is team-oriented.
- Travel periodically within California and neighboring states, while being physically capable of performing fieldwork.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of civil design experience or related field, while having an Engineer-in-Training (EIT); OR a minimum of five (5) years of civil design experience or related field, including a post-graduate degree and registration with the Spanish Civil Engineer Association or an equivalently recognized international registration/chartering.
- Ability to test and pass the PE exam within a year of starting with the company, or have passed the PE exam.
- Bridge/transportation and civil structures experience, including the performance of preliminary and final designs, preparation of quantities and cost estimates, and preparation of plans.
- Experience in using bridge and structure design and analysis software, including spreadsheet and finite element programs.
- Have experience and have familiarity with structural design codes and guidelines.
- Experience using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation Open Roads Designer and Open Bridge Modeler is desired.
- Project Wise experience is a plus InRoads/OpenRoads, RISA, REVIT, and Civil 3D experience a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must.
- Must have solid skills in the following areas: planning and scheduling; organization; problem-solving; and decision-making.
- Valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier
