About the role

  • Serve as the discipline lead for systems engineering on major rail and transit projects.
  • Define and oversee systems engineering frameworks, methodologies, and best practices across the organization.
  • Provide senior guidance on system architecture, interface management, and integration strategies.
  • Lead development of system‑level requirements, traceability structures, and verification/validation plans.
  • Oversee integration across rolling stock, signaling/CBTC/ATC, communications, SCADA, traction power, and civil infrastructure.
  • Direct development of Concept of Operations (ConOps), operational scenarios, and performance models.
  • Lead application of CENELEC‑aligned processes (EN 50126/50128/50129) and/or IEC 61508.
  • Oversee hazard identification, risk assessments, RAMS modelling, and safety case development.
  • Provide senior review and approval of RAMS deliverables and assurance evidence.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to transit agencies, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Lead technical workshops, design reviews, and integration coordination meetings.
  • Support procurement strategies, including technical requirements, evaluation frameworks, and compliance assessments.
  • Mentor intermediate and junior systems engineers, building internal capability.
  • Support recruitment, training, and development of the systems engineering practice.
  • Contribute to thought leadership, internal standards, and knowledge‑sharing initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical/Computer Engineering, or related discipline
  • Must be licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario, Alberta, or British Columbia
  • 15+ years of experience in rail, transit, or other safety‑critical systems
  • Proven leadership in systems engineering lifecycle management (ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 or equivalent)
  • Deep familiarity with CENELEC EN 50126/50128/50129, IEC 61508, and safety assurance frameworks
  • Experience with CBTC, ATC, PTC, ETCS, or other advanced train control systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex system interfaces
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage senior stakeholders and present complex concepts clearly
  • Experience with requirements management tools (DOORS, Jama, Polarion) is an asset.
