About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the weekly processing of payroll across multiple Australian entities and Employment Hero payroll files.
  • Process payroll for a high-volume workforce, including casual, hourly, and salaried employees.
  • Review and validate timesheets, rosters, leave approvals, allowances, penalties, overtime, deductions, and employee changes.
  • Apply Australian Modern Awards and established payroll rules under the guidance of the Senior Payroll Manager.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, including tax, superannuation, banking, and employment details.
  • Prepare and process payroll-related employee lifecycle transactions, including new starters, transfers, variations, terminations, leave payments, back pays, adjustments, and final pays.
  • Respond to routine payroll queries from employees and managers, escalating complex or compliance-related matters as required.
  • Liaise with managers to ensure all timesheets, leave requests, and payroll inputs are submitted and approved before payroll cut-off deadlines.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve payroll discrepancies prior to payroll finalisation.
  • Support payroll compliance activities, including payroll tax, superannuation, workers compensation, and portable long service leave administration.
  • Assist with payroll-related reconciliations, including leave balances, payroll liabilities, superannuation, payroll tax, and general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare payroll reports, variance analyses, supporting schedules, payroll journals, and other documentation required for review.
  • Apply basic double-entry accounting principles when reviewing or adjusting payroll journals.
  • Maintain payroll records, audit documentation, checklists, and process documentation.
  • Support payroll process improvements, system testing, and future workforce or entity expansion initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • **Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Commerce, Human Resources or a related discipline.**
  • **At least three years of Australian payroll experience, preferably within a high-volume, multi-entity or casualised workforce environment.**
  • Practical experience processing Australian weekly or fortnightly payroll from timesheets through to finalisation.
  • **Working knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, Fair Work requirements, superannuation, PAYG withholding and payroll tax fund**amentals.
  • **Experience applying Australian Modern Awards, with exposure to hospitality, leisure, fitness, events, beauty or similar industries highly regarded.**
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills including formulas, lookups, pivot tables and reconciliation of payroll data.
  • **Experience using Employment Hero Payroll is highly regarded. Comparable Australian payroll system experience is desirable.**
  • Sound understanding of payroll reconciliations, payroll journals and basic double-entry accounting principles.
  • Strong numerical accuracy, attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies within large data sets.
  • Ability to manage recurring deadlines, follow documented controls and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills with a professional and service-focused approach.
  • High standards of confidentiality, reliability and accountability.
