About the role
- Broad responsibility in the design, development, and operation of systems and products at Twilio
- Balance new product development with maintenance and modernization of existing software systems
- Be an expert in building, operating, and scaling complex software systems
- Design and develop core systems that support a wide range of products
- Partner with other engineering leaders to build world-class products
- Ensure world-class reliability, security, and cost-efficiency for all the products we build
- Actively mentor other engineers across the organization
- Apply strong business judgement when making technical decisions
- Raise the standard for engineering excellence through teaching, mentoring, and sharing best practices across the company
- May be required to travel occasionally to participate in project or team in-person meetings
Requirements
- Proven experience designing and building large-scale, cloud-based, highly available software systems
- Deep expertise in operating and scaling distributed software systems to support both synchronous and asynchronous workloads
- Skilled at balancing long-term architectural vision with short-term business priorities
- Committed to implementing best practices in software design, development, and operations across the organization
- Strong cloud expertise with hands-on experience in cloud ecosystems (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong collaborator, able to influence and build productive relationships across engineering, product, and business teams
