About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own internal IT infrastructure architecture, roadmap planning, and modernization strategies
Manage, mentor, and develop the Infrastructure Operations Engineer
Establish KPIs, manage performance, and design the operational structure for future team expansion
Lead internal IT security hardening, access controls, patch management, and critical risk mitigation approvals
Drive vendor strategy, negotiate service contracts, and optimize infrastructure spend
Supervise and maintain the physical and virtual footprint at the Malta Data Centre
Oversee administration, upkeep, and compliance monitoring of CESOP, SWIFT, SEPA, and BOL systems
Administer and optimize hypervisors, Active Directory/domain structures, and server health
Maintain network configurations, firewalls, corporate VPN services, CCTV, alarm systems, and HikCentral Access Control integrations
Serve as final escalation point and incident commander for critical IT and infrastructure disruptions
Design, test, and implement high availability, disaster recovery, and backup strategies
Oversee Checkmk monitoring for certificates, server metrics, network health, and automated alerts
Automate routine workflows using Jira, scripts, and internal tooling
Lead infrastructure audits and technical execution of PCI-DSS remediation and security/risk requests
Manage onboardings, offboardings, and hardware lifecycle management via Snipe-IT across European and South African teams

Requirements

What you’ll need

6 to 8+ years of experience in IT Systems Administration and Infrastructure
At least 2+ years of experience in a Team Lead or Managerial capacity
Ideally experience within Payments, FinTech, or highly regulated financial environments
Proven experience managing data centre hardware
Experience with virtualization technologies and hypervisors
Experience with corporate networking, firewalls, and VPNs
Experience administering AWS cloud environments
Exposure to or hands-on management of secure processing or financial messaging environments, including SWIFT, SEPA, or regulatory reporting ecosystems
Must be based in Malta
Ability to design modernization roadmaps and perform complex multi-system troubleshooting
Commitment to standard operating procedures, runbooks, and thorough documentation
Ability to communicate infrastructure dependencies and security risks through clear business metrics
Prior experience facilitating technical evidence gathering for audits is advantageous
Experience using Agile frameworks and Jira/Confluence for infrastructure projects and lifecycle migrations is advantageous
