About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the Health Care Life Sciences Practice Group on assigned matters, clients, projects and attorney teams
- Ensure policies, procedures, client instructions and firm guidelines are followed
- Monitor US and international docket deadlines and follow up with attorneys, clients and management
- Review daily docket reports and correspond with the IP docket department
- Prepare and file patent applications, pre-grant filings and related filings with the USPTO and PCT under attorney supervision
- Manage Information Disclosure Statement data and prepare and file IDS with the USPTO under attorney supervision
- Prepare and manage recordation of assignments and name changes in the US and internationally
- Review and report USPTO and foreign correspondence
- Receive and act on client instructions and respond to client inquiries regarding US, PCT and foreign applications
- Use USPTO and other government agency electronic resources
- Create and maintain electronic worksheets for client requirements
- Maintain official firm files using the document management system
- Track billable and non-billable time
- Prioritize daily work, communicate workload issues, and manage workflow
- Collaborate across practice groups, offices and the firm to support efficient legal services
- Participate in training and professional development of other paralegals
- Provide backup support and communicate effectively with assigned teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree required, or combination of specialized training, education and experience demonstrating ability to perform the duties
- Minimum eight (8) years of progressive patent prosecution experience, including docket management, application filings and prosecution
- Proficiency with US, PCT and international patent law
- Working knowledge and effective application of CFR and MPEP
- Working knowledge of sequence listings highly preferred
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and administrative skills
- Ability to manage and work independently in a hybrid and in-office setting
- Ability to work independently and with teams
- Ability to work under pressure while producing high-volume, accurate work with attention to detail
- Ability to compose, proofread and edit routine memorandums and correspondence
- Ability to identify, analyze and resolve complex issues and problems
- Strong working knowledge of online electronic filings with government agencies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams and OneNote
- Ability to search websites and maintain accurate information in IP-related software applications
- Ability to provide quality client service
- Willingness and flexibility to work closely with attorneys and staff, accept changing assignments and priorities, and provide backup support
