About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Operates a variety of Hot Lab equipment and diagnostic NM imaging equipment to obtain images of anatomy for interpretation by Radiologists
- Processes images as required per specific diagnostic protocols
- Assists physician with administration of therapeutic radionuclides
- Receives patients and explains procedures before and throughout the exam
- Observes patient condition for pertinent information relative to the test
- Calculates radionuclide activity to be administered according to protocols
- Prepares appropriate dosage and volume of radiopharmaceuticals
- Performs quality control to ensure pharmaceutical quality of agents
- Maintains sterility and integrity of prepared radiopharmaceutical compounds
- Prepares imaging devices according to exam protocols
- Administers dose of radiopharmaceuticals to patients
- Performs standard Nuclear Medicine dynamic, static and/or SPECT and SEPCT-CT imaging procedures
- Monitors and maintains patient’s ancillary equipment
- Observes patient for change-in-status and follows prescribed protocols
- Prepares specialized radiopharmaceuticals for in-vitro or in-vivo labelling method
- Reports excessive radiation exposure to relevant personnel
- Receives and checks radionuclide shipments for contamination according to safety procedures
- Disposes of radioactive material and waste in accordance with regulations
- Assists in maintaining inventory of laboratory and medical supplies
- Performs quality control on all instruments to ensure proper working condition
- Initiates vendor service calls for machine repair and downtime events
Requirements
What you’ll need- Completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technologist program, or Associate in Applied Science degree
- Registration as a Nuclear Medicine Technologists by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- One year NM experience preferred
- Must have good working knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy
- Be proficient in venipuncture and quality control procedures and operation of Hot Lab and NM imaging equipment.
