Implement evaluation and treatment of medically disabled patients using established procedures
Evaluate patients' physical and functional status including sensory tests, manual muscle tests, range of motion, reflex and ambulation skills
Establish short and long term therapy goals and formulate treatment plans consistent with goals
Treat patients using therapeutic exercise, gait training, functional training, modalities and assistive devices
Provide and delegate treatment procedures to appropriate personnel and observe patient reactions
Consult with physicians and health-care team members and adjust treatment programs as necessary
Determine appropriate devices (wheelchairs, canes, crutches, prosthetic/orthotic devices) and instruct in their use
Regularly document patient progress and prepare reports for physicians and supervisors
Participate in discharge planning and ensure continuation of rehabilitation at home or other settings
Participate in general physical therapy operations: patient education, quality review, clinical education, program planning, clinics, and supervision of physical therapy student interns
Maintain records and prepare charge slips for billing purposes
Maintain confidentiality of patient, physician, employee, and visitor information
Maintain safety, report hazards, and provide quality patient care considering age-specific, developmental and cultural needs
Maintain knowledge of current trends and attend related conferences and seminars
Requirements
Graduate from accredited school of Physical Therapy
Licensure as Physical Therapist in the State of Michigan
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and physical therapy treatment and modalities
Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients and families
Analytical skills to evaluate physical and functional status and establish therapy goals
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 80% of work time
Ability to react quickly in sudden unplanned situations to prevent or minimize injuries
Able to walk and stand for up to 50% of work time
Able to lift, push and pull approximately 40-60 pounds for up to 20% of work time
Ability to instruct patients and families in therapeutic exercises and assistive device use
