About the role
- Design and implement integration architectures connecting VA corporate IT systems using Salesforce, HealthShare Health Connect (HL7), and InterSystems IRIS
- Develop and configure HL7 interfaces to enable healthcare data interoperability between VA systems
- Lead integration of Salesforce-based solutions with legacy systems and cloud environments (AWS, Azure)
- Engineer solutions using InterSystems IRIS to process, store, and integrate complex datasets, optimizing performance and scalability
- Collaborate with Solution Leads, Data Architects, and DevOps teams to embed integrations into CI/CD pipelines and Agile workflows
- Ensure compliance with VA security and privacy standards (FISMA, NIST 800-53, HIPAA) and implement secure data flows and access controls
- Utilize VA-approved tools (Jira, GitHub, ServiceNow) to document integration designs and produce biweekly status reports
- Provide technical leadership during Agile ceremonies and align integration efforts with the VIP Lean-Agile framework
- Troubleshoot and resolve integration challenges to maintain high availability of interconnected systems
- Support adoption of emerging technologies (APIs, microservices, AI-driven integrations) to enhance modernization and interoperability goals
- Work with VA stakeholders, including the COR, to define integration requirements, validate solutions, and deliver customer outcomes
- Mentor team members on Salesforce administration, HL7 integration, and IRIS development best practices
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- One of the following Salesforce certifications required: Salesforce Certified Administrator or Salesforce Certified Platform App Builder
- HealthShare Health Connect HL7 Interface Specialist Certification required
- InterSystems IRIS Core Solutions Developer Specialist Certification required
- 10+ years of experience in system integration, interface development, or a related role (federal, VA, or healthcare IT environments preferred)
- Proven expertise in Salesforce configuration, HL7 interface development, and InterSystems IRIS solutions
- Hands-on experience in API development, ETL processes, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure)
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills to design and implement complex integrations
- Familiarity with VA security standards (e.g., FISMA, NIST 800-53, HIPAA) and the VIP Lean-Agile framework is highly desirable
- Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint) and VA-approved tools (e.g., Jira, GitHub, ServiceNow)
- Ability to adapt to evolving technical requirements and travel occasionally to VA sites in Washington, D.C.
