About the role

  • Manage the underwriting and regulatory aspects of assigned internal and external underwriting offices.
  • Conduct pre-audit planning and research.
  • Prioritize and manage an audit schedule of 8 to 12 audits annually, including budgeting for annual travel.
  • Conduct effective pre- and post-underwriting performance audit meetings with internal and external underwriting offices, presenting results with constructive feedback and clear action expectations.
  • Implement follow-up procedures, systems, and management reports to ensure underwriting compliance with audit findings and recommendations.
  • Communicate accurate and concise findings to Executive stakeholders in a professionally written report.
  • Collaborate with regulatory and compliance staff on rules for various states.
  • Review and work within compliance of each underwriting office’s contract documents.
  • Support external underwriting partner relationships.
  • Understand industry best practices and corporate profitability goals to ensure audit consistency.
  • Contribute and advise leadership teams on underwriting guidelines or expansion initiatives for new and existing programs when requested.
  • Continue career development through specialized project assignments, industry training, or conference opportunities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Insurance Underwriting experience, with a strong concentration in workers’ compensation preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Industry designations (ARM, CPCU, CIC or AU) are beneficial.
  • Proficient with NCCI, PAAS, or similar resource tools.
  • An understanding of workers’ compensation markets and the willingness to learn about new insurance developments, trends, and products.
  • Internal or External Audit experience is beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of laws and regulations relevant to underwriting standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of underwriting principles and procedures.
  • Must have strong organization and analytical skills.
  • Professional, verbal, and written communication skills are critical.
  • Must be PC proficient, including MS Office Suite; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access; and telecommunication tools.
  • Team-focused mentality with strong interpersonal skills across internal and external relationships.
  • Must be able to manage change effectively.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
