About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define architecture within one or more segments or domains for a platform modernization effort
- Translate technology strategy and business direction into architecture roadmaps
- Identify architectural opportunities and risks and present recommendations to engineering leadership
- Drive an AI-first architectural approach, including AI and agentic architecture opportunities
- Design and document conceptual, logical, and solution architectures, service decomposition, APIs, data flows, and integration patterns
- Author Architecture Decision Records documenting context, options, trade-offs, and rationale
- Evaluate architectural patterns such as event-driven, request/response, and CQRS
- Prototype and develop technology proofs of concept using AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor and Claude Code
- Present architectural options, pros, cons, risks, and trade-offs to engineering teams and stakeholders
- Provide hands-on guidance, review designs, participate in technical discussions, and unblock implementation challenges
- Prepare architecture overviews, decision summaries, and roadmap updates for leadership
- Present architecture reviews, technology assessments, and modernization progress to VP-level leadership
- Explain AI capabilities and limitations to non-technical stakeholders
- Influence architectural direction, build consensus, and encourage buy-in for standards and modernization initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related STEM field, or equivalent in education and/or work experience
- 8 years of architecture experience
- 6 additional years of architecture/software engineering experience
- Experience with cloud-native application design across AWS, Azure, or GCP; AWS preferred
- Understanding of microservices, event-driven architecture, API design, data modeling, and distributed systems concepts
- Familiarity with integrating AI/ML services, including LLM-based capabilities, agentic patterns, or AI-assisted decision workflows
- Understanding of non-deterministic AI components, testing strategies, output validation, fallback design, and cost management
- Exposure to prompt chaining, tool use patterns, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or workflow engines
- Hands-on experience with agentic frameworks and tooling, including LangChain, AWS Bedrock AgentCore, Azure AI Foundry, Azure AI Agent Service, or equivalent
- Familiarity with AI-specific concerns such as latency tolerance, token cost management, output non-determinism, and graceful degradation
- Experience working in an agile operational model
- Experience supporting transformational change
- Strong knowledge of the insurance industry; insurance technology experience preferred
- Understanding of value creation and business capability models
- Strong problem-solving, judgment, verbal, written, and listening communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with teammates
