About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Independently handle a caseload of higher-exposure cases and complex litigation matters from inception through trial and appeal
- Try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions using litigation skills and techniques
- Conduct advanced legal research and prepare persuasive legal writing and presentations
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents
- Independently attend court events, depositions, and other appointments
- Provide substantive case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and Claim partners
- Collaborate with expert witnesses and consultants on case strategies, technical matters, and litigation testimony
- Manage internal and external client and business partner relationships
- Deliver training, seminars, and legal updates to insured clients and Claim partners
- Mentor attorneys and legal support staff
- Initiate special projects and support office goals and business needs
- Use technology, case management systems, and automation effectively
- Travel as required to meet business needs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- 7+ years of insurance defense litigation experience as a practicing attorney
- Proven track record of litigating jury trials and successful courtroom outcomes
- Strong technical knowledge in relevant practice areas
- Advanced oral and written advocacy skills
- Demonstrated summary judgment and/or appellate success
- In-depth knowledge of the bench, bar, local jurisdictional practices, and adversaries
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and influencing skills
- Advanced negotiation skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail, urgency, and responsiveness
- Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree
- Graduate of an accredited law school
- 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney
- Active license in good standing to practice law in the state(s) where representation is required
- Ability to regularly handle hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, and other court proceedings
- Ability to transport to court proceedings and meetings
- Valid driver's license required depending on location
