About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Travelers' accounting team serves as the steward of our financial information and controls to ensure compliance with all internal policies and external requirements.
  • The team creates transparency about the health of the company by providing timely, accurate, and actionable information to all stakeholders.
  • As an AVP, Accounting, you are responsible for oversight and leadership for all financial and accounting activities across multiple business areas within Business Insurance.
  • You will lead a team working to advance organizational objectives aligned with enterprise goals and ensure more informed strategic decisions.
  • Leveraging your relationship building skills, you will build strong internal and external networks.
  • You are an influential leader that can articulate how financial content can influence business strategy.
  • This position will directly manage others.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, and/or professional designations, such as CPA, CMA or comparable advanced professional education.
  • Extensive experience with Financial Analysis concepts, principles, processes, applications and accounting practices and principles within the insurance and financial services industry.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and influencing skills with the ability to present and influence complex information to senior leadership and functional partners in relevant business terms.
  • Exceptional data analysis skills with the ability to interpret trends and report insights and recommendations to business partners.
  • A proven track record as a leader who is well-respected and highly organized, with the ability to mentor, coach, and develop team members and strategically align resources to accomplish key objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and planning effective strategies, with the ability to lead a team to implement those strategies.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Financial Reporting Software (e.g., TM1, Essbase, Hyperion, etc.).
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to problem-solve, think critically and operate strategically across the company.
  • Eight years of finance, accounting, financial planning, or related experience.
  • Previous management experience.
