About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Travelers' accounting team serves as the steward of our financial information and controls to ensure compliance with all internal policies and external requirements.
The team creates transparency about the health of the company by providing timely, accurate, and actionable information to all stakeholders.
As an AVP, Accounting, you are responsible for oversight and leadership for all financial and accounting activities across multiple business areas within Business Insurance.
You will lead a team working to advance organizational objectives aligned with enterprise goals and ensure more informed strategic decisions.
Leveraging your relationship building skills, you will build strong internal and external networks.
You are an influential leader that can articulate how financial content can influence business strategy.
This position will directly manage others.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, and/or professional designations, such as CPA, CMA or comparable advanced professional education.
Extensive experience with Financial Analysis concepts, principles, processes, applications and accounting practices and principles within the insurance and financial services industry.
Exceptional communication, collaboration, and influencing skills with the ability to present and influence complex information to senior leadership and functional partners in relevant business terms.
Exceptional data analysis skills with the ability to interpret trends and report insights and recommendations to business partners.
A proven track record as a leader who is well-respected and highly organized, with the ability to mentor, coach, and develop team members and strategically align resources to accomplish key objectives.
Demonstrated experience in developing and planning effective strategies, with the ability to lead a team to implement those strategies.
Experience using Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Financial Reporting Software (e.g., TM1, Essbase, Hyperion, etc.).
Strong business acumen, with the ability to problem-solve, think critically and operate strategically across the company.
Eight years of finance, accounting, financial planning, or related experience.
Previous management experience.
