About the role
- Provide the Underwriter with account knowledge as it relates to hazards, controls, and management
- Evaluate how a company identifies and manages their inherent risk factors and differentiate the account from similar classes of business
- Work with larger, more complex and all lines accounts and report to the Risk Control Field Director or Managing Risk Control Consultant
- Partner and have joint ownership with Underwriting to select, retain, and grow a profitable book of business
- Build and maintain productive relationships with Underwriting, Claim, Risk Control Specialists, and Brokers
- Complete all lines risk assessment evaluations for multiple/diverse businesses with moderate to high complexity (manufacturing, large warehouses, products liability, multi-location companies, larger fleet exposures)
- Write technically detailed reports that communicate a clear assessment of risk and articulate recommendations
- Discover and evaluate customer needs through loss analysis and customer readiness to provide Risk Control products and services
- Identify uncontrolled exposures and influence customers to take corrective actions to mitigate potential for loss
- Provide solutions and resources to assist customers in risk mitigation
- Stay current with technical subject matters, regulatory environment and emerging issues
- Create a valued customer experience through each assessment and service encounter
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Five years of experience in safety, risk control/management, or a related field (occupational/environmental health and safety, science, engineering, construction, manufacturing, or relevant military experience)
- Valid driver's license
- Must have or be able to attain appropriate certification to meet state-specific requirements, where applicable
- Bachelor's or graduate degree in environmental health and safety, engineering, construction management, basic sciences and related technical fields (ideal)
- Recognized relevant certifications (such as ASP, CSP, ARM, CFPS)
- Strong level knowledge of insurance industry and business acumen
- Technical aptitude, detail oriented
- Superior communication skills - both written and verbal
- Experience working in a collaborative environment
- Critical thinking skills
- Influencing and negotiating skills
- Ability to give and receive coaching and feedback
