About the role
- Lead a team of specialised legal officers delivering complex, high-quality, timely legal services in the Projects, Development and Planning Legal team
- Provide construction, property and planning advice across the Transport Portfolio, including Sydney Trains and NSW Trains
- Provide leadership and expert legal advice to the Secretary, Senior Executives and Manager and lead complex legal negotiations
- Direct research, analysis and interpretation of complex project, operational, legislative, and legal issues and prepare high-quality submissions, reviews and recommendations
- Take a leading role in client teams to identify legal risks, provide solution-oriented advice, draft documents and coordinate outcomes aligning to organisational and commercial objectives
- Architect the legal framework for NSW Motorways as a new government entity, establish relationships, define service parameters, and create the legal function to support infrastructure development
Requirements
- Current unrestricted practising certificate (NSW practising certificate required for some roles)
- Minimum of 5 years relevant legal experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in at least one of: Construction law (front end) preferred; Property law; Planning/environment law
- Extensive experience with infrastructure development, including Government Approvals and Unsolicited Proposal Rules
- Experience leading and managing specialised legal officers and delivering high-value legal advice
- Ability to provide expert legal advice to senior executives and to lead complex legal negotiations
