About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversees the workers’ compensation program, including injury prevention, claim reporting, vendor coordination, and return‑to‑work practices.
- Analyzes workers’ compensation trends and root causes; partner with HR and Operations to implement targeted safety and injury‑reduction initiatives.
- Serves as the first internal liaison with third‑party administrators, insurance carriers, legal counsel, and brokers.
- Ensures compliance with applicable state workers’ compensation laws and reporting requirements across all operating states.
- Leads the organization’s fleet safety and driver risk programs, including driver qualification standards, MVR monitoring, vehicle usage policies, and accident review processes.
- Develops and implement driver training, incident investigation, and corrective action programs to reduce vehicle‑related losses.
- Analyzes vehicle accident data and trends; recommend improvements to policy, training, and operational practices regarding fleet safety.
- Audits internal records for compliance with the organization’s fleet safety policies.
- Develops, maintains, and/or enforces workers’ compensation, safety, fleet, and employee injury incident reporting policies and procedures.
- Partners with HR and Operations to deliver safety training, risk education in the areas of workers’ compensation and fleet safety.
- Supports regulatory compliance efforts, including but not limited to trainings related to safety, fleet safety, OSHA, DOT, and applicable state and federal requirements.
- Tracks, audits, and reports key risk metrics, including workers’ compensation and auto claims frequency, severity, and costs as well as fleet incidents, and insurance trends.
- Prepares executive‑level dashboards, analyses, and recommendations for senior leadership and the Board, as appropriate.
- Serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, community executive directors, community/vertical HR leaders, and operations teams.
- Influences without authority; balance risk mitigation with operational practicality.
- Promotes a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement consistent with organizational values and the Culture of Excellence.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Human Resources, Safety, or a related field or equivalent experience required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in worker’s compensation, safety, or insurance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong expertise in workers’ compensation and fleet safety within healthcare, senior living, and/or a multi‑site service environment.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze claims data, identify trends, and translate insights into actionable prevention strategies.
- Deep understanding of employment‑related risks, insurance structures, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship‑management skills.
- Ability to think strategically while remaining highly operational and detail‑oriented.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams); experience with claims or HRIS systems is a plus
