About the role
- Coordinate with the Managing Editor to generate fresh and interesting local news and feature stories
- Provide coverage of municipal government and regional school boards
- Adapt to frequent updates in news and information
- Produce high-quality, trustworthy journalism using reporting and researching skills
- Understand the connection between reporting and reader interest
- Other duties as required
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in journalism or related field
- Motivated self-starter with innovative journalism skills
- Ability to write clean copy
- Proven news judgment and strong work ethic
- Online posting skills and social media proficiency
- Highly organized with time management skills
- Ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Team-oriented with relationship-building skills
- Knowledge of Canadian libel law and Canadian Press style
- Flexible working hours including evenings and weekends
- Familiarity with Georgina and York Region considered an asset
