Engineer

• - Employ expertise in materials science and superconductors and superconductivity to support HTS coil development and manufacturing activities.
• - Working both independently and in leadership of technicians to expand Tokamak Energy’s HTS tape quality assessment (QA) facilities and methodologies and perform QA campaigns on large quantities of HTS conductor. This will include making critical current measurements in high magnetic fields, fabricating and testing joints between HTS tapes, manufacture and testing of small coils, and many other associated tests.
• - Work with key stakeholders in the wider business, including the Quality and Procurement departments, to develop robust systems for HTS tape quality control.
• - Liaising with and where necessary attending international laboratories to perform external measurements in high magnetic field test facilities.
• - Provide materials analysis support to magnet manufacturing teams to produce world-class HTS magnets, making use of metallurgical sample preparation and optical microscopy teams. This will include inspection of coil and joint structures to analyse their microstructures, providing expert insights and guidance based on results.
• - Liaise with key external suppliers and subcontractors
• - Liaise with stakeholders internal to Tokamak Energy
• - Prepare technical reports and specifications
• - Support commercialisation of the company’s HTS magnet technology
• - Generate and document intellectual property

Magnet Materials Engineer

• Work closely with technicians to fabricate high temperature superconducting (HTS) components, such as joints, coils and full magnet assemblies, developing manufacturing processes and techniques for fusion and other applications.
• Design and use bespoke experimental test equipment, working with mechanical design engineers to design components.
• Work closely with technicians to instrument and test HTS components and magnets under cryogenic conditions.
• Analyse data using numerical software packages such as Matlab,
• Develop design tools and modelling code, where appropriate.
• Interpret test results, produce clear written reports, and present findings to key internal stakeholders.
• Conduct safety analyses and safety case preparation for new activities conducted in the laboratory
• Liaise with stakeholders internal to Tokamak Energy
• Liaise with key external suppliers and subcontractors
• Support commercialisation of the company’s HTS magnet technology
• Generate and document intellectual property

Magnet Development Engineer

• - Participate in developing the processes and tooling involved in fabricating high temperature superconductor (HTS) magnets
• - Ensure the quality and reproducibility of (HTS) magnet fabrication
• - Participate in FMEA processes
• - Liaise with key external suppliers and subcontractors
• - Liaise with stakeholders internal to Tokamak Energy
• - Support the safety analysis procedure and safety case preparation for the manufacturing processes and tooling
• - Prepare technical reports and specifications
• - Support commercialisation of the company’s HTS magnet technology
• - Generate and document IP

Magnet Manufacturing Engineer

Affiliate Manager

• Ensure health, safety, environment and quality policies and procedures are fully deployed and compliant with UK regulations and ISO standards.
• Provide safety advice and assistance on all EHS related issues to managers and leadership team.
• Attend operational EHS and other business meetings.
• Work closely with stakeholders to ensure compliance with legislation, guidance and industry best practice and implement EHS initiatives.
• Understand and work with Tokamak Energy quality and management systems aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001.
• Compile accident and incident reports and undertake incident investigations as required.
• Collate accident statistics, perform trend analysis, root cause identification, and recommend preventive action.
• Conduct safety and environmental audits and implement corrective measures.
• Prepare, collate and review safety related documentation from internal and external stakeholders including Safety Plans, Training documents, Confined spaces, noise and vibration assessments, MSDS / COSHH data and assessments and environmental risk assessments.
• Implement proactive and reactive safety measures.
• Liaise with Health and Safety Executive, Environment Agency or other government appointed bodies as required.
• Ensure site compliance with Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Promote a positive and proactive culture towards health, safety, and environmental matters at all levels.
• Support delivery of internal EHS training/coaching sessions and develop tool box talks and safety inductions.

Environment, Health and Safety Business Partner

• Contribute to the development of advanced plasma control solutions, including enabling real-time communication with new measurements or actuator systems, real-time signal processing, implementing new real-time plasma state observers, and designing and implementing feedback control laws.
• Develop off-line control-oriented tools to optimize plasma scenarios and calculate PCS feedforward requests.
• Participate in planning, running, and analysis of experiments with a focus on Plasma Control System (PCS) performance and continuous improvements.
• Use existing plasma physics codes and PCS software tools to carry out modelling related to operating scenarios and plasma control of ST40 and future devices.
• Develop, test and maintain the ST40 Pulse Scheduling System (PSS) and Plasma Control System software and aid these systems’ integration.
• Work closely with internal and external collaborators as part of a multidisciplinary Plasma Control Team.
• Contribute to operating ST40 tokamak and support development for future high-field spherical tokamaks (STs).
