Apply academic knowledge while working alongside Professional Engineers and Technicians on transportation infrastructure projects.
Assist with highway bridge design, railroad bridge design, pedestrian bridge design, and retaining wall design.
Produce final plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
Work from TKDA office in Bloomington, MN or assigned project sites; may have flexible/hybrid arrangements.
Participate in formal software trainings, mentorship, networking opportunities, social events, and learning seminars as part of the internship program.
Perform assigned tasks in a team environment and communicate effectively with project staff.
Requirements
Undergraduate pursuing a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering with interest in bridges.
Previous experience or formal training with Microstation, MathCAD, STAAD or Geopak.
Strong interpersonal skills; Ability to work in a team environment.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Previous coursework or project assignments related to structural or bridge design. (Preferred)
Thorough understanding of drafting techniques, plan development, and related engineering practices. (Preferred)
Previous experience developing construction plans and specifications. (Preferred)
Available to work 40 hours per week with occasional overtime during summer 2026 (mid-May through mid-August).
