About the role
- Apply academic knowledge while working alongside Professional Engineers and Technicians on transportation infrastructure projects.
- Assist with highway bridge design, railroad bridge design, pedestrian bridge design, and retaining wall design.
- Produce final plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Work from TKDA office in Bloomington, MN or assigned project sites; may have flexible/hybrid arrangements.
- Participate in formal software trainings, mentorship, networking opportunities, social events, and learning seminars as part of the internship program.
- Perform assigned tasks in a team environment and communicate effectively with project staff.
Requirements
- Undergraduate pursuing a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering with interest in bridges.
- Previous experience or formal training with Microstation, MathCAD, STAAD or Geopak.
- Strong interpersonal skills; Ability to work in a team environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Previous coursework or project assignments related to structural or bridge design. (Preferred)
- Thorough understanding of drafting techniques, plan development, and related engineering practices. (Preferred)
- Previous experience developing construction plans and specifications. (Preferred)
- Available to work 40 hours per week with occasional overtime during summer 2026 (mid-May through mid-August).
