About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and review hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses/modeling for small and large watersheds.
  • Lead planning and design of stormwater and water resources projects including drainage improvements, watershed/basin planning, green infrastructure/low impact development (LID), water quality treatment BMPs and treatment systems.
  • Oversee engineering calculations, design deliverables, and coordination with CAD/GIS staff; perform QA/QC reviews of plans, specifications, and technical deliverables to meet internal standards and client/regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as technical lead for stormwater monitoring, permitting, and compliance including developing/reviewing SWPPPs, data collection plans, and related inspection/reporting documentation.
  • Prepare and review technical memoranda, calculations packages, design reports, and exhibits; as appropriate, sign and seal engineering deliverables in accordance with licensure requirements.
  • Develop and deliver operations, maintenance, and/or operator training materials to support implementation and long-term performance of stormwater treatment BMPs and treatment systems.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior staff; coordinate multi-disciplinary teams (engineers, geologists, scientists) to meet scope, schedule, quality, and safety expectations.
  • Manage projects and major tasks: define scope, level of effort, schedules, and budgets; lead work planning; track progress and burn rates; manage subconsultants; and support change management and risk identification for multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for clients and project stakeholders; communicate proactively, facilitate meetings, and present strategic updates, milestones, and actionable recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Lead and support proposals and business development activities.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or environmental engineering (or closely related discipline) with coursework/emphasis in water resources, stormwater, hydrology/hydraulics.
  • Master's degree in civil or environmental engineering with an emphasis in water resources, stormwater, hydrology/hydraulics, or a closely related discipline. (preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (active). Washington P.E. preferred; if currently licensed in another state, ability to obtain Washington licensure by comity/reciprocity within 6 months of hire. (required)
  • At least 7 years (8+ years preferred) of related stormwater/water resources experience delivering planning, design, and project execution in consulting and/or regulated industry environments. (required)
  • Experience with H&H modeling/design tools such as EPA-SWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD (or similar), plus CAD and GIS platforms (e.g., AutoCAD/Civil 3D and ArcGIS). (required)
  • Experience supporting stormwater permitting and compliance (e.g., NPDES/MS4, construction and industrial stormwater), including erosion and sediment control and permanent BMP design. (required)
  • Experience with field investigations and data collection related to stormwater infrastructure, drainage systems, erosion control, and/or water quality BMP performance. (required)
  • Strong technical writing, task/project coordination, and client communication skills. (required)
  • Experience managing task budgets and tracking project financials (e.g., work planning, progress tracking, and burn-rate management). (required)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
