About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build and operate the Customer Files Orchestration Service end-to-end
- Orchestrate customer document upload, storage, extraction, embedding, and indexing
- Design, implement, test, deploy, scale, and operate distributed systems handling millions of files
- Own meaningful parts of the orchestration service from ambiguous problem definition through design, ADR, implementation, release, and operation
- Make decisions about consistency, delivery guarantees, idempotency, leases, heartbeats, crash recovery, and compare-and-swap state transitions
- Build fair queuing, rate limiting, backpressure, circuit breaking, dead-letter handling, and autoscaling systems
- Design and maintain versioned, documented, backward-compatible file and workspace APIs
- Anticipate and prevent concurrency and load-related failure modes
- Participate in primary on-call rotation, lead incident response, and drive post-mortems
- Instrument and trace systems to diagnose downstream notification and file-location issues
- Automate recurring manual fixes and improve runbooks
- Mentor engineers through code and design reviews
- Partner with storage, extraction, indexing, connectors, and front-end teams
- Perform system design, development, and operations without a separate DevOps function
- Communicate technical trade-offs, throughput implications, correctness costs, and deadline risks to product partners and the team
