About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Define and execute the Agent Core engineering strategy
  • Set technical direction for agent runtime infrastructure, AI intelligence pipelines, and the MCP-based customization platform
  • Lead and develop engineering managers and their teams across a globally distributed organization
  • Drive talent assessment, performance differentiation, and career development
  • Own reliability, scalability, and security of the agent runtime
  • Oversee user authorization flows, session and file storage interactions, memory pipelines, I18n infrastructure, and runtime optimization
  • Drive Agent Intelligence capabilities including core agent capabilities, multilingual quality, organizational knowledge management, and long-term memory systems
  • Build the Agent Customization platform for customer and partner custom skills, MCP tools, and third-party integrations
  • Collaborate with engineering, AI Platform, Product Management, Design, and Security teams
  • Establish best practices for AI system development, testing, observability, and responsible AI deployment in a regulated legal environment
  • Report directly to the Head of Engineering for CoCounsel Next

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • 5+ years in senior engineering leadership managing managers and large distributed teams
  • Deep expertise building and scaling agentic AI systems, LLM-powered platforms, or AI infrastructure in a production enterprise environment
  • Strong technical foundation in backend systems engineering, distributed systems, reliability, security, and developer platforms
  • Experience with agent orchestration, memory systems, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and tool-use patterns such as MCP and function calling
  • Proven success influencing cross-functional product and platform strategy at the VP or Director level
  • Ability to communicate with clarity and conviction from engineering teams to C-suite stakeholders
  • Experience in legal tech or professional services technology preferred
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements in regulated industries, such as FedRAMP, HIPAA, and CJIS, preferred
  • Experience building with or contributing to open agent/tool standards such as MCP or A2A preferred
  • Public technical thought leadership through publications, conference talks, or open-source contributions preferred
