About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Receive, process, assess quality, accession, and prepare human and animal study specimens for distribution
  • Inventory specimens, record discrepancies, and exhaust specimens according to biohazard regulations
  • Use RTLIMS to manage specimen databases and chain of custody
  • Maintain the high-density archive room for FFPE tissues and tissue slides
  • Collaborate daily with histology technicians, pathology, human tissue sciences, study managers, and project coordinators
  • Coordinate preparation, documentation, facilitation, and tracking of domestic and international shipments
  • Perform equipment verifications and maintain calibrations according to protocols
  • Serve as first point of contact for specimen matters, quality, service-level agreements, and staff interactions
  • Maintain and author work instructions, assist with job hazard assessments, and perform PPE assessments
  • Follow best practices, SOPs, and work instructions
  • Analyze, maintain, and reconcile customer and Thermo Fisher reports
  • Assemble, communicate, and explain performance metrics to the direct manager
  • Communicate customer issues and potential problems
  • Resolve customer concerns with a goal of first-call resolution within established turnaround times
  • Adopt Practical Process Improvement (PPI) methodologies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate’s Degree in a related field and high school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2–3 years of proven experience preferred
  • Proven verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Experience in a GxP laboratory setting or services preferred
  • Proven customer service skills
  • High confidentiality for customer and Thermo Fisher Scientific information
  • Detail-oriented problem solver who promotes a team environment
  • Computer/software skills including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible and changing schedule
  • Ability to self-manage and operate independently
  • Sense of urgency in completing work assignments
  • Good time-management and organizational skills
  • Ability to lift 30–40 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to use pushcarts and forklifts to move up to 100 lbs
  • Successful completion of pre-employment screening, including background check and drug test
  • Ability to satisfy customer-mandated screening, credentialing, or badging requirements
