About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Assist in providing analytical support for external partners, overseeing activities to support genomic investigations (e.g., pathogen outbreaks), to ensure timely and effective solutions that address partner needs.
Assist in the development and delivery of Theiagen training workshops, supporting all aspects from material preparation to logistics and communication with external partners.
Contribute informed perspective to development initiatives, including experimental design to validate development work, conducting literature reviews, and thoroughly testing solutions.
Ensure adherence to, and continuous improvement of, internal training and analytical support practices.
Regularly communicate with their Public Health Team Lead to summarize critical information, ensuring alignment on project statuses, challenges, and milestones for informed decision-making.
Seek mentorship from senior team members to develop skills and knowledge, while contributing to a culture of learning and technical excellence within the team.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience applying bioinformatics tools and workflows to answer biological questions, particularly in pathogen genomics.
Proficiency in using standard bioinformatics tools for tasks such as NGS quality assessment, genome assembly, annotation, taxonomic classification, and antimicrobial resistance detection.
Basic knowledge of statistical approaches and bioinformatics pipelines for analyzing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
Familiarity with genomic epidemiology methods, such as MLST typing or outbreak investigation tools.
Ability to work on multiple projects in a collaborative team environment with minimal supervision.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Motivation and commitment to advancing public health.
**Preferred Skills:**
Familiarity with public health laboratory processes and workflows.
Experience interpreting results from bioinformatics workflows for actionable insights.
Familiarity with cloud-based bioinformatics platforms (e.g., Terra.bio, Galaxy) or workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Nextflow, WDL, or Snakemake).
Experience with visualization and reporting tools for presenting results.
Familiarity with shell scripting and working in UNIX/Linux environments.
