About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and implement tier-1 microservices in Java and/or Scala
  • Design core backend software components for the Unified Messaging Platform
  • Implement asynchronous cloud processes for data transformation operations
  • Create technical designs for initiatives and projects according to business needs
  • Participate in code reviews and architecture reviews
  • Participate in Agile and Scrum activities including sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily standups, and retrospectives
  • Provide rotational on-call support for critical services
  • Own features and functionality and deliver projects end-to-end with high-quality, robust architecture
  • Communicate and collaborate with multifunctional business partners
  • Lead the design and enhancement of critical Unified Messaging Platform services for scalability, performance, and reliability
  • Research and integrate new technologies into production
  • Provide technical guidance to junior team members
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, QA, Operations, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and communicate technical decisions and outcomes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of experience building internet-scale web or services applications
  • Experience and/or certification with cloud services
  • Excellent understanding of software development fundamentals
  • Experience writing unit, integration, and functional tests
  • Experience with CI/CD procedures and tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and Spinnaker
  • Ability to integrate with service APIs and/or SDKs
  • Experience working in a modern Agile software team with version control and project management tools such as Git, SVN, Jira, and Basecamp
  • Experience in Java and/or JVM application development environments such as Scala
  • Knowledge or certification with AWS services including ECS/Docker, S3, EC2, Lambda, and CloudWatch
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Spark, Databricks, and EMR
  • Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tooling
  • Experience with graph-based data workflows such as Apache Airflow and Meson
  • Experience building scalable, fault-tolerant, high-uptime systems
  • Creative and inventive problem solving
  • Experience mentoring other developers
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience
