About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Greet patients and prepare them for examinations or procedures
  • Record patient health histories and note abnormal conditions for physicians
  • Obtain vital signs and perform required screenings
  • Administer intramuscular, subcutaneous, and oral medications safely as ordered
  • Observe, record, and report patient conditions and reactions to drugs and treatments
  • Assist physicians or advanced practice providers during treatment, examination, and testing
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient chart entries and forward charts as appropriate
  • Schedule tests and treatments and arrange specialist referrals and pre-authorizations
  • Collect, document, and deliver lab specimens; obtain and enter lab results into the EMR
  • Notify patients of test results and follow-up appointments
  • Review medications, treatments, and after-visit instructions with patients and families
  • Screen telephone calls and refer patients to registered nurses or physicians
  • Coordinate pre-visit planning by reviewing EMR records and ordering approved labs and tests
  • Complete forms such as FMLA, DME, and Home Health orders and obtain physician signatures
  • Perform assigned unit or department professional, clinical, and technical competencies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduation from an accredited licensed practical nurse program
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) multistate license from the applicable State Board of Nursing in Kansas and/or Missouri, in good standing in the state of residence
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 14 days
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Previous medical office experience preferred
