About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Greet patients and prepare them for examinations or procedures
Record patient health histories and note abnormal conditions for physicians
Obtain vital signs and perform required screenings
Administer intramuscular, subcutaneous, and oral medications safely as ordered
Observe, record, and report patient conditions and reactions to drugs and treatments
Assist physicians or advanced practice providers during treatment, examination, and testing
Maintain accurate and timely patient chart entries and forward charts as appropriate
Schedule tests and treatments and arrange specialist referrals and pre-authorizations
Collect, document, and deliver lab specimens; obtain and enter lab results into the EMR
Notify patients of test results and follow-up appointments
Review medications, treatments, and after-visit instructions with patients and families
Screen telephone calls and refer patients to registered nurses or physicians
Coordinate pre-visit planning by reviewing EMR records and ordering approved labs and tests
Complete forms such as FMLA, DME, and Home Health orders and obtain physician signatures
Perform assigned unit or department professional, clinical, and technical competencies

Requirements

What you’ll need

Graduation from an accredited licensed practical nurse program
High school graduate or GED
Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) multistate license from the applicable State Board of Nursing in Kansas and/or Missouri, in good standing in the state of residence
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 14 days
Basic computer skills
Excellent analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
Previous medical office experience preferred
