About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist with the day-to-day operation of payroll staff at Territorial Headquarters
- Provide payroll program support to divisions, units, and ministries
- Oversee payroll operations and reporting processes
- Manage employee and officer payroll deductions, including union dues, garnishments, charitable contributions, and statutory or voluntary deductions
- Coordinate reconciliation, remittance, and disbursement of deductions to external agencies, vendors, unions, and charitable organizations
- Respond to and resolve payroll inquiries from employees, officers, pensioners, ministry units, and divisional stakeholders
- Support year-end payroll activities, reporting, and compliance processes
- Prepare payroll-related financial information, analyses, and reports
- Generate payroll, salary, and budget worksheets for workforce planning and financial management
- Maintain payroll documentation and records for audit activities
- Contribute to salary disclosures, annual financial statement information, and payroll accounting deliverables
- Lead and support special projects, process improvements, and other payroll-related initiatives
Requirements
What you’ll need- Completion of a three-year college diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Minimum two years of full-cycle payroll experience
- Experience in a unionized environment operating across Canada
- Knowledge of payroll processes, HR systems, and key business practices in an integrated, cross-functional environment
- Experience supporting payroll system implementations, upgrades, or process enhancements
- Proficiency with payroll systems and PC-based applications
- Ability to manage and analyze payroll data accurately
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to respond effectively to employee and stakeholder inquiries
- Commitment to high-quality customer service and positive working relationships
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
- Ability to support and uphold The Salvation Army’s mission, values, and health and safety policies and procedures
