About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage a caseload of sensitive and complex cases across the fitness to practise process
- Progress cases in a proportionate, timely and risk-focused manner
- Advise on regulatory concerns, case-specific and organisational risk, investigation scope, evidence collation, and disclosable summaries for media briefings
- Advise colleagues on wider legal obligations and the relevance and impact of case law
- Collaborate with internal NMC teams on information sharing, public inquiries and inquests
- Serve as a key contact for senior internal and external stakeholders
- Provide short-notice updates on overseen cases
- Instruct and manage external firms conducting investigations, including defining enquiries, proposed disposal and investigation instructions
- Supervise and develop junior colleagues
- Identify and implement improvements to working practices
- Support the NMC’s statutory objectives of protecting the public and upholding confidence in the nursing and midwifery professions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Relevant fitness-to-practise casework experience, knowledge and skills
- Ability to advise on regulatory concerns and assess case-specific and organisational risk
- Ability to scope investigations and collate evidence
- Knowledge of wider legal obligations and case law
- Ability to collaborate across internal teams on complex matters
- Ability to engage with senior internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to provide case updates at short notice
- Ability to instruct and manage external law firms conducting investigations
- Ability to work autonomously as a confident self-starter
- Ability to supervise and develop junior colleagues
- Ability to work with sensitive and distressing fitness-to-practise material
- Ability to demonstrate behaviours, experience and skills outlined in the job specification
