About the role

  • Provide strategic leadership and executive oversight for physical security and risk management across The J.M. Smucker Company.
  • Responsible for the strategic protection of the Company’s employees, visitors, properties and assets.
  • Ensure operational excellence in the implementation of security programs and procedures, emergency preparedness plans and threat mitigation strategies.
  • Lead and direct a team of approximately 35 Smucker security professionals across North America.
  • Establish performance standards, conduct reviews and create a culture of growth in supporting the ongoing development of the team.
  • Develop, implement and manage an enterprise-wide physical security strategy.
  • Proactively stay abreast of industry trends, security best practices and new technologies.
  • Provide executive leadership with regular updates on the current security landscape, external trends and emerging security threats.
  • Ensure proper alignment among Company executives and key stakeholders to deliver on key security priorities and initiatives.
  • Direct Company-wide physical security program and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate security, including at least 5 years in a leadership capacity managing large, complex teams
  • Experience managing multi-site security operations across both corporate and manufacturing environments
  • Expertise in security systems, surveillance technology, and emergency response procedures
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, critical thinking and decision-making abilities
  • Proven experience and ability to investigate incidents, analyze risks and implement required security measures
  • Strong coaching, conflict resolution, relationship and team building skills; demonstrated ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues
  • Experience managing executive security and travel risk management
  • Strong collaboration skills and the proven ability to partner with key stakeholders across various functional areas
  • Proficiency in protective concepts including secure transportation, contingency planning, threat assessment, surveillance and counter-surveillance awareness, and emergency response
  • Experience facilitating skill assessments, drills, or classroom instruction is strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in contract negotiation, vendor management, and budget administration
