About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Responsible for the operational management of the Systems and Transaction (Payables & Receivables) teams.
  • Ensure the production of key performance data and delivery of timely reporting.
  • Lead and manage VAT accounting processes for the Council in line with HMRC guidelines.
  • Main point of contact for VAT related matters.
  • Contribute to the production of the Council’s Statement of Accounts.
  • Act as lead, representing the Council on key financial system project workstreams.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners for change and improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, financial legislation, and statutory requirements.
  • Deliver whole service in a professional manner.
  • Work in collaboration with colleagues to meet service delivery requirements.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Ideally CCAB qualified, although significant experience in a similar role with a desire to achieve qualifications will be considered.
  • Advanced technical knowledge and experience relating to systems and Local Authority accounting.
  • Experience in improving control and processes surrounding accounting.
  • Knowledge of VAT requirements, both regulations and accounting is essential.
  • Experience of successful operation delivery within a changing environment would be advantageous.
  • Ability to understand complex financial reporting issues.
  • Strong communication skills, self-awareness and political awareness in decision making.
