About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Working within a collegial and service-oriented environment, you will work with a team of lawyers, negotiators and other professional staff to support and/or conduct negotiations for physician and medical staff contracts.
  • The Legal Counsel and Negotiator provides advice and analysis on a range of legal, policy and human resources issues, and advise or represent the government or BC’s Health Authorities on disputes arising under the Physician Master Agreement, physician and medical staff contracts or related legislation.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • You must be a member or eligible for membership to the Law Society of British Columbia or have a masters’ degree (or equivalent), in a related discipline and seven (7) to ten (10) years recent related experience in negotiating, labour relations, or health care.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating complex contracts, preferably within the public sector environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, plan, direct, manage and implement.
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent conflict resolution, facilitation, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to gain trust and confidence of senior leaders internally and externally.
  • Expertise in research, evaluation, analysis and interpretation of legal issues.
  • Ability to prepare high quality legal correspondence, contracts, submissions, summaries, reports and opinions for a variety of groups.
