About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Handle a caseload of bodily injury and non-bodily injury claims at varying levels of complexity
  • Provide oversight to third-party administrators
  • Support CLS underwriters and account managers in sales activities on new and renewal business
  • Address inquiries from agents and policyholders, providing superior customer service
  • Make coverage determinations and communicate written position(s) to insureds and other required parties
  • Set appropriate expense and indemnity reserves and monitor them for adjustments
  • Present cases to management for expense or indemnity reserve authority above established levels
  • Develop and implement resolution strategies to achieve high quality outcomes
  • Proactively manage litigation and counsel including planning and execution, budgeting and bill review
  • Provide periodic claims reviews for individual insureds as needed
  • Attend trials and mediations as necessary
  • Contribute to broader claim and enterprise goals by participating in audits, projects, and product development initiatives
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and deliver presentations to senior claim leadership on case developments, policy issues, industry trends
  • Work closely with TPAs to address time limit demands and evaluate multiparty evaluations
  • Partner with CLS underwriters to communicate the value of the CLS claims model to prospective insureds, agents and brokers
  • Provide support to the CLS business unit to explain and evaluate claim trends and developments

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of five plus years handling General Liability litigated coverage and liability matters
  • High level of discipline; results-oriented; and able to focus on bottom line results
  • Superior analytical ability and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent strategic thinking ability and task execution skill
  • Excellent negotiation and technical claim handling skills, including knowledge of coverage and tort laws
  • Full command of issues and medicals relative to high value bodily injury claims
  • Ability to analyze coverage and liability issues
  • Ability to communicate thoughts clearly and concisely, and to influence and persuade others
  • Superior interpersonal skills and strong team player
  • Ability to exceed expectations and influence others to do the same.
