About the role

  • evolving 'For you'—offering timely and personalised content modules and recommendations
  • enabling users to actively search, ask questions and explore topics of interest
  • working closely with Product Managers, Engineers (including web, app and ML/AI), data and editorial; taking ownership of design decisions
  • producing end-to-end user experiences and creating design deliverables ready for engineering
  • upholding The Economist brand digitally, maintaining high visual quality while ensuring technical constraints are considered to create intuitive user flows
  • collaborating with key partners across the business to design and optimise experiences across discovery and personalisation areas
  • planning, managing and running user research to understand user behaviour and needs
  • articulating key insights and translating them into testable artefacts like sketches, user flows or interactive prototypes
  • defining user flows and journeys, ensuring clarity and alignment across teams
  • creating production-ready design assets and working with engineers to ensure high-quality experience is shipped
  • facilitating workshops and/or design sprints and communicating progress and product rationale to key partners

Requirements

  • portfolio that demonstrates your design process and core craft skills including interaction and visual design across app and web
  • know how to run, evaluate and interpret user research findings in order to wireframe or prototype solutions
  • experience iterating or launching mobile app or web products by working collaboratively with engineers, product managers and other designers in an agile way
  • well-trained eye for design quality, usability and consistency
  • understanding of technologies used to build world-class mobile product experiences
  • experience in agile working and sprints, hands-on with user-acceptance testing (UAT) and familiarity with accessibility and usability fundamentals
  • experience with prototyping and design tools like Miro, Protopie or Figma; experience in AI enabled prototyping tools would be a plus
  • motivated team player with the ability to perform well under pressure and take ownership of your work end-to-end
  • clear communicator both verbally and through text with strong English language skills
