About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee day-to-day dining room and service floor operations to ensure timely, clean, and high-quality service.
  • Serve as the shift lead during assigned service periods—monitoring food flow, managing line setup, and resolving service-related issues in real time.
  • Help conduct weekly inventory counts and monitor stock levels to ensure essential items are available for service.
  • Ensure all staff follow local, state, and UHD safety and sanitation policies.
  • Reinforce best practices in food handling and cleanliness.
  • Supervise full-time, part-time, and student staff working during assigned shifts.
  • Foster a respectful and collaborative team culture focused on safety, service, and accountability.
  • Deliver hands-on coaching and real-time feedback to support staff performance.
  • Participate and support recruitment efforts for dining staff in collaboration with UHD HR.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new team members, monitor daily attendance, and help ensure staff are prepared for each shift.
  • Conduct performance reviews, track training progress, and support staff development.
  • Set clear expectations for conduct, service, and safety, and model the standards expected from all team members.
  • Address performance concerns promptly and professionally, issuing corrective actions when necessary in alignment with UHD HR policies.
  • Champion a customer-first approach by ensuring staff deliver friendly and efficient service.
  • Be present and engaged on the floor during service periods to interact with guests, resolve concerns, and support a welcoming dining environment.
  • Communicate guest feedback to management and assist in implementing service improvements.
  • Support themed events and special meal promotions to enhance the student dining experience.
  • Support clear and consistent communication across shifts by documenting shift updates, issues, and key action items.
  • Share information with team members and managers to maintain alignment across service periods.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Two years of food service experience in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional facility.
  • One year of supervisor experience in food service or similar capacity.
  • Experience with operating standard kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to complete and maintain Food Safety Training required by University Housing and Dining.
  • Ability to complete and maintain University Housing and Dining cash handling training.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
