About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Maintain and publish standard static maps used by Church leaders and department staff
Work with GIS staff to maintain and publish online interactive maps
Maintain and enhance GIS datasets through digitizing, editing, research, attribute calculation, and merging data from different sources
Convert internal and external data for compatibility with the Church GIS database
Analyze and model spatial data to highlight geographic insights and create custom static or interactive maps
Create, maintain, and quality-check geographic datasets, identifying and correcting errors, omissions, and topology issues
Provide geographic information and services to authorized clients at Church headquarters and worldwide
Produce maps, tables, and spatial and aspatial data deliverables and services
Ensure privacy and security standards are met
Research past cases, statistics, and leader decisions
Handle analytical issues and refer only the most complex issues to higher-level staff

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Urban Planning, or a closely related field, or equivalent education and experience equal to four years
Ability to perform analytical functions under direct supervision
Good oral and written communication skills, including report and correspondence writing
Basic proficiency with ESRI products, including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcCatalog, ArcGIS Pro, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Online, and Portal
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer usage
Basic proficiency with data manipulation and reporting
Basic knowledge of map projection, coordinate transformation, cartographic principles, and best practices
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Beginner proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop
Beginner proficiency with Google Earth, Google Maps, Bing Maps, OpenStreetMap, and LandVision
Basic competency with organizational systems including CDOL, Boundary and Leadership Proposals, ServiceNow, FileNet, Geopolitical Locality, Meetinghouse Locator, Ward Map, Global Property Management, As-Built Catalog, Church History Catalog, Physical Facilities Maps, and Policy Point
Basic understanding of relational database structure and ability to create queries
Conceptual knowledge of Microsoft SQL
Basic analytical and research skills
Basic knowledge of GIS principles and practices
Advanced knowledge of geodata file types including shapefile, GDB, JSON, and KML
Ability to work within policies and guidelines and exercise sound judgment when tasks are not clearly defined
Close attention to detail and organization
Good judgment in identifying crucial issues for case summaries and recommendations
Ability to work at a computer station for extended periods
Ability to perform required physical activities, with or without accommodation, including fine manipulation; standing and walking over uneven terrain or climbing a slope; lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs.; reaching overhead and at or below shoulder level; driving a company van; stooping, crouching, and kneeling; and far visual acuity
Must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently temple worthy
