About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Obtain blood specimens by performing venipunctures on Tempus patients
- Maintain specimen integrity by using aseptic technique and following department procedures
- Prepare, label, and package specimens for laboratory testing
- Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting collection times
- Verify test orders by comparing patient information against requisition forms
- Verify patient identity prior to every draw and confirm the correct test requisition
- Schedule blood draws and coordinate collection times
- Monitor sample shipments between Tempus, client pathology, and partner facilities
- Update job status and specimen tracking information in Tempus systems
- Manage phlebotomy supply and kit stock at the account
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or equivalent required; BS/BA degree or RN preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of phlebotomy experience required; oncology experience preferred
- National Phlebotomy Certification required or obtained per the requirements of the state of practice
- Demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture, aseptic technique, and specimen handling
- Experience with Epic or comparable EMR systems preferred
- Strong customer-service orientation and the ability to work independently in a client-embedded setting
