About the role
- Join the TELUS Network Engineering and Operations DC Power Operations team, where your technical expertise ensures the reliability of critical power infrastructure across the TELUS network.
- Perform maintenance and assurance duties on critical power platforms including Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), DC Plant and Batteries, Inverters, Rectifiers, Converters, Diesel Generators, Fuel Systems, and Building Grounding Systems.
- Respond to in-service alarms and conditions with potential for degradation, performing on-site diagnosis and troubleshooting to resolve issues for CAT1 sites in the region while providing remote support for non-CAT1 sites.
- Support AC/DC Power work for both Wireline and Wireless networks, performing multifunctional break-fix repairs, routine maintenance, Capital build Project QC, and operational testing.
- Manage generator operations including ensuring diesel reserves, managing refueling efforts, tank cleaning, fuel polishing, and maintaining Generator tap boxes to comply with Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) standards.
- Conduct regular site reviews and testing to ensure power requirements meet TELUS standards, and provide training and guidance to Network teams for power-related activities.
- Select vendors and negotiate contracts relating to DC Power operations, facilitate payments utilizing TELUS systems, and perform QA to ensure vendor compliance to TELUS standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, or technical training with relevant experience
- Working knowledge of emergency power systems, including diesel generators, ATS, and UPS
- Experience in power operations, specifically with DC power systems and power design
- Familiarity with safety procedures for electrical work and working with hazardous materials such as battery fluid, electrical isolation techniques, and all related PPE
- Proficiency using electrical tools and testers (DMM, oscilloscope, clamp ammeter, IR camera, Midtronics)
- Strong organizational skills to scope out difficult tasks, set objectives, prioritize multiple activities, and anticipate roadblocks with minimal supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Valid driver's license (without restrictions) with willingness to travel across defined region and ability to work in remote locations
- Ability to take part in an on-call rotation with potential to work nights, weekends, and off-shift schedules
- Qualification for Canadian Government Security Clearances
- Proficiency in Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, etc.) and internal TELUS software applications (NPI, FIRM, SAP, Fieldglass, Zabbix, etc.)
