About the role
- Lead and oversee the global engineering organization responsible for development, implementation, and maintenance of TELUS' cloud-based PaaS
- Define and execute the technical vision and strategy for the platform, aligning with TELUS' business objectives and customer needs
- Apply deep technical expertise to lead architectural decisions and guide the engineering team through complex development challenges
- Develop and nurture senior talent within the engineering team; provide guidance, mentorship, and growth opportunities
- Leverage hands-on engineering experience to solve complex technical challenges and make direct product impact
- Operate in a fast-paced, startup-like environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities
- Stay updated on emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices for cloud-based platforms and PaaS
- Provide regular updates and reports on progress, performance, and impact of the platform to senior leadership and stakeholders
- Oversee operational aspects of the platform to ensure reliability, scalability, and availability
- Implement robust monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes to proactively identify and address issues
- Work closely with operations to establish and maintain SLAs and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Report to the Vice-President of the Connected Home Division
Requirements
- Expertise in building and scaling systems on cloud architecture
- Strong technical background in cloud computing, distributed systems, and software engineering (focus on AWS services)
- Proven background in leading global engineering organizations, preferably developing cloud-based platforms or PaaS
- Ability to provide insightful technical recommendations and lead architectural decisions
- Hands-on engineering experience to solve complex technical challenges
- Experience developing diverse and high performing teams, promoting inclusivity and diversity
- Ability to foster collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to influence and gain buy-in
- Experience working across internal and external stakeholders and ensuring alignment and delivery
- Operational focus: ensuring reliability, scalability, availability, monitoring, alerting, and incident response
- Experience establishing and maintaining SLAs and compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like environment and ability to wear multiple hats
- Willingness to travel as needed to engage with global partners and stakeholders
- Great to have: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
