About the role
- Provide guidance on Canadian indirect tax matters, including interpretation of GST/HST, QST, PST legislation, case law, and government policies
- Proactively manage tax compliance and identify opportunities for tax optimization while following the TELUS Tax Strategy
- Support high-impact projects, including tax authority audits, appeals and litigation, tax planning, legislative impact assessments, and system/process improvements
- Balance multiple tasks and work closely with Tax and non-Tax team members, adapting to shifting priorities to support evolving business and taxation needs
- Engage with government authorities to stay ahead of tax regulations and policy changes and incorporate this knowledge into TELUS's tax planning and compliance strategies
- Address challenges related to acquisitions, new product introductions, business process changes, systems implementations, audits, and appeals
- Drive initiatives to enhance tax efficiency, compliance, and overall business performance
- Occasionally support the broader TELUS Tax team on US indirect tax matters
Requirements
- 2+ years of Canadian indirect tax experience
- Ability to take initiative and ownership of challenges and opportunities
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Analytical skills to analyze and research complex issues
- Ability to cultivate positive relationships and influence others, including senior leaders
- Learning mindset, creativity, drive for continuous improvement, and adaptability
- Demonstrated foundational knowledge in business and finance
- Completion of CPA In-Depth GST/HST Course (or equivalent) is an asset
- Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Excel, SAP, and other common software applications
- Comfortable with or willing to learn new technology platforms, automation and AI (e.g., ChatGPT)
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Accounting, or completing/completed professional designation – Canadian CPA preferred or equivalent related experience
- Bilingual in English and French is an asset
