About the role
- Guide business units and explain the opportunities, risks, and benefits they can realize as they navigate the complex landscape and end-to-end lifecycle of data- and AI-powered products
- Work with engineers, researchers, designers, and TELUS business teams to integrate ethical decision-making, risk mitigation, and monitoring processes into emerging technologies to ensure design and deployment align with the intended purpose
- Define policies, frameworks, and standards that can be adopted to embed and monitor accountability, ethical use, and transparency
- Enhance understanding of AI governance and data ethics and their importance across TELUS by providing information and influencing the data stewards community and network on responsible innovation
- Maintain deep knowledge of toolkits and best practices for AI governance and data ethics, and contribute to industry working groups on responsible innovation standards
- Define and oversee engagement methods to incorporate human-centered participatory design and consultation of diverse voices throughout the innovation lifecycle to improve public understanding and ensure technologies deliver positive social outcomes
- Continuously learn and innovate, seeking opportunities for professional development and to demonstrate thought leadership with external stakeholders
Requirements
- University degree or equivalent experience in applied ethics, philosophy, ethical machine learning, human–computer interaction, social sciences and humanities, or a related field
- Recognized knowledge and expertise in data ethics and in assessing ethical risks associated with emerging technologies
- Experience establishing ethical decision-making and monitoring processes
- Demonstrated skills and experience conducting analyses of societal expectations, including defining values and engagement/participation techniques
- Highly adaptable and comfortable working in an emerging field and in a fast-paced, demanding environment
- Ability to proactively and unconventionally identify opportunities, and to propose multiple solutions to solve problems and address gaps
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively inform leadership of initiative progress in forums
- Excellent interpersonal skills; willingness to collaborate and act with integrity, and to apply ethical practices in support of TELUS’s commitments to its customers
- Post-secondary degree required
- Proficiency in French and English, both spoken and written (asset)
- Experience working within a large matrixed organization (asset)
- Experience implementing multidisciplinary data ethics practices and collaborating with technology, policy, engineering, product, and research teams in a cross-functional environment (asset)
