About the role

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a high-performing squad of backend engineers, fostering a DevOps-first and customer-first mindset
  • Oversee the design, development, deployment, and operation of metadata services and customer-facing APIs powering multiple TELUS TV+ client applications
  • Drive improvements in the software development lifecycle (SDLC), release practices, and end-to-end delivery pipelines
  • Partner with product managers and architects to define feature roadmaps, prioritize work, and deliver with quality
  • Champion operational reliability: ensure high availability, observability, and performance across services
  • Lead initiatives to reduce setup friction and customer-impacting errors and collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve customer pain points
  • Influence platform decisions that enable frictionless setup experiences for millions of users across iOS, Android, web, FireTV, and more

Requirements

  • 5+ years in software development leadership, managing backend/API engineering teams
  • Proven experience delivering cloud-native, microservices-based solutions at scale
  • Strong understanding of API design, distributed systems, and service observability
  • Extensive hands-on experience across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including designing, coding, testing, deploying, and operating complex software systems
  • Strong foundation as a software engineer with prior experience in developing, troubleshooting, and delivering high-quality solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality, customer-centric software solutions that scale to millions of users
  • Hands-on knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and site reliability principles
  • Track record of improving SDLC processes, engineering velocity, and operational health
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate across engineering, product, operations, and executive leadership
  • Nice-to-haves: Experience in video streaming, metadata systems, or large-scale content platforms
  • Nice-to-haves: Familiarity with GCP (Cloud Run, GKE, Spanner, Pub/Sub) or similar cloud platforms
  • Nice-to-haves: Background in capital planning, cost optimization, or vendor management
  • Nice-to-haves: PMP, CSM, or equivalent Agile leadership certifications
