About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide recommendations and influence verification and validation of the Telesat Lightspeed system
- Develop verification matrices for feeder and user link system requirements, including spectrum usage, carrier sizes, polarization, and power control
- Define link establishment, maintenance, and degradation scenarios
- Design and execute tests for coverage and elevation limits, spectrum assignment, fading, interference, and outage behavior
- Serve as Link Layer subject matter expert for DVB-S2X, DVB-RCS2, and Ka‑band link operation
- Perform hands-on link testing in the LEO Lab, including channel emulation, link impairments, carrier aggregation, and spectrum flexibility
- Configure and operate satellite link emulators, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and traffic generators
- Ensure tested products meet technical, functional, performance, and business requirements
- Collaborate with antenna vendors, modem teams, RF engineers, DevOps, ground systems, and satellite teams to validate end-to-end link behavior
- Support OTA test planning and execution for feeder and user links
- Support system acceptance planning for LEOP and IOT phases

Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, or Systems Engineering
- Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in satellite communications
- 5+ years of experience with flat-panel, parabolic, and aero antennas; Ka‑band preferred
- 5+ years of experience with satellite RF communication systems
- Strong knowledge of modulation and coding used in DVB‑S2(X) and DVB‑RCS2
- Strong understanding of RF engineering principles, design practices, and feeder/user link test design, validation, and testing
- Hands-on experience with RF test equipment, including oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and satellite channel emulators
- Strong understanding of Ka‑band link budgets, polarization, ACM, and interference effects
- Understanding of air interfaces, modem technologies, modulation, coding, and satellite-link performance impacts
- Experience analyzing satellite link budgets and impairment effects
- Experience with test-case and defect-tracking tools such as Jira and Jama
- Ability to communicate effectively with management, engineering teams, and partners/suppliers
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
- Experience working with geographically dispersed teams
- Must be authorized to work in Canada and able to obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP)
- Preferred: experience with Ka‑band antenna vendors, BUC/LNB technologies, LEOP/IOT planning, MEF standards, and MATLAB, Python, or similar tools
