About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage and maintain R&D, laboratory, and office facilities
- Ensure reliable operation and maintenance of HVAC systems, cleanrooms, utilities, electrical distribution, access control, fire/life safety systems, and environmental controls
- Plan, schedule, and manage operational service providers and contractor performance
- Use CMMS software to manage work orders, preventive maintenance, asset records, and maintenance history
- Lead facility space planning, renovations, and capital projects from scope development through closeout
- Manage architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors to meet safety, quality, compliance, schedule, and budget requirements
- Partner with Environmental Health & Safety on facility safety programs, employee training, and regulatory compliance
- Provide after-hours and weekend support for facility emergencies
- Participate in insurance, safety, facility inspections, internal and external audits
- Lead and develop facility personnel through staffing, workload management, coaching, performance management, training, and professional development
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies to recommend facility improvements
- Develop long-range utility, energy, and infrastructure plans
- Advise site leadership on capital investments, facility risks, resources, and infrastructure priorities
- Maintain facility-related quality system documentation, procedures, and records
- Develop and manage operating and capital budgets, forecasting, expenditure tracking, and financial performance
- Establish departmental goals, priorities, and performance expectations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
- Minimum eight years of progressive facilities management experience, including building operations, infrastructure maintenance, or construction project management, required
- Experience in regulated manufacturing, medical device, life sciences, pharmaceutical, or laboratory environments preferred
- Working knowledge of GMP environments and quality system requirements within medical device industry
- Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, infrastructure, and life safety systems
- Experience managing capital projects, renovations, and contractor services
- Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within a regulated environment
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and facility layout software preferred
- Proficiency with CMMS applications and Microsoft 365 software
- Ability to influence and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including senior leadership
- Strong employee coaching, conflict resolution, and performance management skills
- Professional certification such as CFM, FMP, PMP, or LEED accreditation preferred
- Ability to read and interpret facility drawings, construction documents, and technical specifications
- Willingness to provide 5–10% travel and after-hours/weekend emergency support
